The absence of colors allows for the focus to be on the subject, it’s through the intentional use of composition and light that we can create timeless visual stories

My commitment to becoming a better photographer has led me back to working exclusively with black & white photography for my personal projects. In early August I challenged myself to only creating in black and white, based on the idea that this will improve my ability to identify an create better stories.

More recently I’ve begun to work more with film, manual lens and vintage cameras. I really appreciate the forced intentionality that comes with film photography, the limited number of exposures and the lack of rear LCD screen encourages me to consider every element within my frame.

This collection of photos was made last week during an impromptu street photography session with Gary. My primary objective was to create a cohesive story, with the secondary focus being on the composition of each frame.

Hope you enjoy these photos.
